[10:35]  1 sn See Luke 24:47.

[10:35]  2 tn Or “shows reverence for him.”

[10:35]  3 tn Grk “works righteousness”; the translation “does what is right” for this phrase in this verse is given by L&N 25.85.

[10:35]  sn Note how faith and response are linked here by the phrase and does what is right.

[2:10]  4 tn Grk “but even,” to emphasize the contrast. The second word has been omitted since it is somewhat redundant in English idiom.

[2:10]  5 tn Grk “so that we might walk in them” (or “by them”).

[2:10]  sn So that we may do them. Before the devil began to control our walk in sin and among sinful people, God had already planned good works for us to do.

[11:33]  6 tn This probably refers to the righteous rule of David and others. But it could be more general and mean “did what was righteous.”

[11:33]  7 tn Grk “obtained promises,” referring to the things God promised, not to the pledges themselves.

[11:33]  sn Gained what was promised. They saw some of God’s promises fulfilled, even though the central promise remained unfulfilled until Christ came (cf. vv. 39-40).

[2:1]  8 map For location see Map1 C3; Map2 D2; Map3 C5.

[2:1]  9 sn Cana in Galilee was not a very well-known place. It is mentioned only here, in 4:46, and 21:2, and nowhere else in the NT. Josephus (Life 16 [86]) says he once had his quarters there. The probable location is present day Khirbet Cana, 8 mi (14 km) north of Nazareth, or Khirbet Kenna, 4 mi (7 km) northeast of Nazareth.

[2:1]  10 tn Grk “in Galilee, and Jesus’ mother.”

[3:7]  11 tn “All” has been supplied to indicate the plural pronoun in the Greek text.

[3:7]  12 tn Or “born again.” The same Greek word with the same double meaning occurs in v. 3.

[22:14]  13 tn Grk “so that there will be to them authority over the tree of life.”

[22:15]  14 tn On the term φάρμακοι (farmakoi) see L&N 53.101.

[22:15]  15 tn Or “lying,” “deceit.”
